Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2519 by Stucky (Relating to a study on dropout prevention and recovery before the ninth grade.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Education Code to require the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to conduct a study to identify best practices for reducing the number of students who drop out of school before entering ninth grade and for directing these students toward an appropriate educational program. The bill would require the agency to submit the findings from the study, along with any recommendations, to the Legislature by September 1, 2018.
TEA indicates some administrative costs associated with contracting with an external entity for the study. However, this analysis assumes the agency can use existing resources to conduct the study and required report.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
