No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code relating to the compensation of fire and police departments. The bill would require compensation be substantially equal to comparable police or fire departments. The bill would require a public employer and an association that is a bargaining agent shall submit to binding interest arbitration if the parties reach an impasse in collective bargaining or are unable to settle after the 61st day the appropriate lawmaking body fails to approve a contract reached through collective bargaining.
The bill would repeal Section 147.153(c), 174.163 and 174.252 of the Local Government Code.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
