LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 17, 2017

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2782 by Wilson (Relating to the method used in rating public school districts and campuses for accountability purposes.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code to require the Commissioner to ensure the method used to evaluate performance for purposes of assigning school districts and campuses an overall and a domain performance rating allows for the mathematical possibility that all districts and campuses receive an A rating. The bill would take effect immediately if passed with necessary voting margins, or September 1, 2017, and would apply beginning school year 2017-18.

The Texas Education Agency estimates it can absorb the changes to the accountability system as required by the bill within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
