LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 25, 2017

TO:
Honorable Geanie W. Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2785 by White (Relating to the offense of driving while license invalid.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code as it pertains to the offense of driving with an invalid license, which is a Class C misdemeanor.  The bill would clarify that the offense is elevated to a Class B misdemeanor if it is shown at trial that at the time of the offense the defendant's license was suspended for an offense involving driving while intoxicated.  Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration and the Department of Public Safety, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
