LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 4, 2017

TO:
Honorable Roland Gutierrez, Chair, House Committee on Defense & Veterans' Affairs

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2836 by Thierry (Relating to a study and report on the establishment and implementation of a program that provides financial assistance to property owners who offer housing to veterans at risk of homelessness.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would direct the Comptroller of Public Accounts to conduct a study to evaluate the feasibility, methods, and costs of establishing and implementing a program that provides financial assistance to property owners who offer housing to veterans at risk of homelessness. A report of the study and any recommendations would be submitted to the Legislature not later than September 1, 2018. The bill would take effect immediately upon receipt of a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Based on the analysis of the Comptroller of Public Accounts, costs to conduct the study could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
