HB2841 by Muñoz, Jr. (Relating to authority of a county auditor to investigate misuse of county funds or property.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code allowing a county auditor to investigate a complaint about the alleged misuse of funds. If the county auditor refers the matter to a law enforcement agency the auditor may not make the results of the investigation or report available to the public until the law enforcement agency's investigation is complete.

The bill would take effect immediately if the bill receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017. 

Local Government Impact

According to Denton and Smith County, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
