TO:
Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence

FROM:

IN RE:
HB2869 by Ortega (Relating to the salary of a bailiff in El Paso County.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to modify the compensation of bailiffs in El Paso County.  Allows these positions to be funded from sources other than general revenue if approved by the commissioners court.  Establishes that the salary shall be set consistent with other comparable positions in the County.  Provides that bailiffs appointed under Section 53.002(c) and who held that office on June 30, 2017 shall receive at least the same salary or compensation as they received on that date.  Repeals certain restrictions on future salary increases for these positions.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

According to El Paso County, the fiscal impact of the bill would be positive however the amount cannot be determined.
