LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 19, 2017

TO:
Honorable Geanie W. Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3087 by Morrison, Geanie W. (Relating to the definitions of highway maintenance and service vehicles for purposes of certain provisions governing vehicle equipment.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 547 of the Transportation Code to establish definitions for "highway maintenance vehicle" and "service vehicle" to include certain highway traffic maintenance vehicles designated by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The bill would specify what types of highway maintenance and service vehicles may have specialized lighting equipment for purposes of identification and highway work.

Current law authorizes TxDOT to adopt lighting standards and specifications for vehicles performing work or services on the right of way. TxDOT indicates that any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
