No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Government Code relating to the creation of a chief innovation and technology officer position within the Department of Information Resources (DIR). The bill would require the executive director of DIR to designate an employee as the chief innovation and technology officer. The chief innovation and technology officer would be tasked with various duties related to working with other state governments, the federal government and businesses, and coordinating efforts at Texas state agencies to streamline and expand the efficient use of information resources. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2017.
DIR indicates that any additional costs to implement the provisions of the bill can be absorbed within existing resources.
