No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would establish a joint interim committee on high-speed rail development to be composed of members of the House of Representatives and Senate appointed by the Speaker and the Lieutenant Governor. The bill would require the committee to evaluate the feasibility of creating a statewide high-speed rail initiative through a public-private partnership and work with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for the development of high-speed rail in Texas. The committee would be abolished on January 1, 2019.
TxDOT indicates that any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
