The bill would amend the Local Government Code allowing certain municipalities to establish homestead preservation districts and reinvestment zones. The bill would apply to the City of Houston. The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
Local Government Impact
According to the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the City of Houston indicated the bill would have a positive fiscal impact supporting affordable home ownership in locations with rapidly increasing home values.
