No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Chapter 2157, Government Code, to exempt a Department of Information Resources (DIR) contract for the bulk purchase of commodity items from existing requirements for a state agency to submit requests for pricing for information technology (IT) commodity items to a certain number of vendors based on the value of the contract and from the limitation on the purchase of IT commodities items from the list maintained by DIR under Section 2157.068(e) if the value of the contract exceeds $1,000,000. The bill would take effect immediately upon receipt of a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017. DIR indicates that implementation of the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.
