LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2017

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB264 by Perry (Relating to an application made by a county jailer to obtain a license to carry a handgun; reducing a fee.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 411 of the Government Code to allow an applicant for an original or renewal concealed handgun license who is a county jailer to pay a reduced license fee of $25. An applicant under this section would also be required to submit to the department additional information including job validation and evidence that the applicant has satisfactorily completed the preparatory training program required under Chapter 1701 of the Occupations Code.

The Department of Public Safety has indicated that while the agency does not collect data on the number of concealed handgun license holders who are county jailers, the change in fee is not anticipated to have a significant revenue impact.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
