LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2017

TO:
Honorable Donna Campbell, Chair, Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Border Security

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB441 by Rodríguez (Relating to eligibility for surviving spouses of disabled veterans specialty license plates.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code §504.317 to entitle the surviving spouse of a person who had been eligible for disabled veterans specialty license plates to obtain such a plate regardless of whether the deceased spouse was issued a disabled veterans specialty license plate.

The provisions Transportation Code §504.317 authorize a person entitled to specialty license plates under that section to register one vehicle without payment of any registration fee other than the fee for the specialty plate. Based on LBB's analysis of information provided by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, it is assumed implementation of the bill would not result in a significant impact to vehicle registration fee revenue and any additional costs or duties could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
