LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2017

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB470 by West (Relating to the establishment of one or more supplemental county civil service commissions in certain counties.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code allowing a commissioners court of a county that has established a civil service system to establish one or more supplemental commissions to assist in administering the civil service system. The commission only applies to a county with a population of two million or more and in which a civil service system has been created. The Office of Court Administration anticipates no significant fiscal impact to the state court system, or to local courts, from the provisions of the bill.

The bill would take effect immediately if the bill receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
