LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 12, 2017

TO:
Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB957 by Campbell (Relating to the content and numbering of propositions on the ballot.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code requiring each political subdivision's proposition on the ballot be assigned a unique number or number. The Secretary of State would be required to prescribe procedures to implement the provisions of the bill.

The Secretary of State estimates any fiscal impact can be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives the requisite two-thirds vote of the membership of each house of the Legislature, otherwise it would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
