FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 7, 2017

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB959 by Hughes (Relating to the adoption of the Compact for a Balanced Budget.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to allow the State of Texas to enter and be bound by a Compact for a Balanced Budget with other states enacting, adopting and agreeing to be bound by the compact.  The bill would establish and define the compact and the compact commission in addition to the associated powers, duties, requirements, and guidelines for the purposes and operations.

It is assumed that there would be minimal costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
