LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 31, 2017

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1327 by Seliger (Relating to the authority of a district engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation to temporarily lower speed limits.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) District Engineer to temporarily lower a prima facie speed limit for a highway in a district if the District Engineer determines that the prima facie speed limit for the highway is unsafe because of a hazard.

TxDOT indicates that any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
