LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 24, 2017

TO:
Honorable Charles Schwertner, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1554 by Kolkhorst (Relating to establishing a Medicaid Block Grant Waiver Legislative Oversight Committee.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 537 of the Government Code to create a Medicaid Block Grant Waiver Legislative Oversight Committee to facilitate waiver efforts and take certain additional actions if the federal government authorizes or requires states to receive federal funds for the Medicaid program through a Medicaid block grant funding system. The bill would authorize the committee to request information from the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and utilize existing staff at the Texas Legislative Council (TLC) to conduct its work. HHSC and TLC anticipate any additional work resulting from the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
