IN RE:
SB1597 by Rodríguez (Relating to a requirement that the General Land Office conduct an evaluation and submit a report regarding the use of wind and solar power to desalinate brackish groundwater on real property owned by the state.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require the General Land Office (GLO) to evaluate the economic potential for use of wind and solar power to desalinate brackish groundwater on state-owned land and to identify possible sites for the implementation of a pilot program. The bill would require GLO to use information collected for a previous study and to consult with representatives of the private sector with expertise in the desalination of brackish groundwater and the generation of wind and solar power. The bill would require GLO to provide a report by December 31, 2018. Based on the analysis of GLO, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
