FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 3, 2017

TO:
Honorable Craig Estes, Chair, Senate Committee on Natural Resources & Economic Development

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1667 by Seliger (Relating to the functions of the Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Compact Commission.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 403.0051, to state that the Low-level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission (Compact Commission) is an independent entity as established under federal law, and is governed by the part states compact agreement. The bill would define the Compact Commission as not a state agency, although the Compact Commission may be assigned an agency code, obtain its funding through an appropriation from the State of Texas, allow for the reimbursement of Compact Commission members, staff, and contractors costs, and conduct other functions not addressed in the governing federal law or in the party states compact agreement in alignment with policies and procedures as determined by the State of Texas.

No significant fiscal implications are anticipated as a result of enactment of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
