IN RE:
SB1670 by Lucio (Relating to a historic structure assistance program operated by a municipally owned utility in certain municipalities; authorizing a fee.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code allowing a municipally owned utility to charge a historic structure fee not to exceed $1 a month if a majority of municipal voters approve the fee in an election.  The historic structure fee would be used for the purpose of maintaining, operating, and renovating the utility systems of certain historic structures under the historic structure assistance program. The bill would only affect a municipality with a population of 135,000 to 230,000 located in a county that is located on the international border.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

The City of Brownsville does not anticipate any costs with implementing the provisions of the bill.
