IN RE:
SB1785 by Uresti (Relating to appraisal of public school teachers.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Education Code to prohibit the use of student evaluations as criterion on which to appraise the performance of a teacher.
Local Government Impact
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) reports that there would be some costs for local school districts to prepare new teacher evaluation systems if they had previously been using student evaluations to appraise teacher performance. However, TEA estimates that very few districts use student evaluations for teacher appraisal, and that costs to districts would be minimal and could be absorbed within existing resources.
