LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 3, 2017

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1877 by Perry (Relating to sending notice of proposed contracts for highway projects by e-mail.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Transportation Code §223.003 to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT's) to send notification of proposed highway contracts (Notice to Contractors) electronically by email.

TxDOT currently sends the Notice to Contractors by mail. TxDOT anticipates that emailing instead of producing, printing, and mailing notices could result in savings to the department. Based on the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
