SB1912 by Zaffirini (Relating to procedures in mental health cases.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code relating to procedures governing the commitment and court-ordered treatment of adults with mental illness. The bill would allow a sheriff or constable to hand deliver a notice authorized by the relevant chapters of the code.  The bill would require a person who files the notice with reproduced, photocopied, or electronically transmitted paper to maintain the original paper and provide it to the parties or court upon request.

The bill would allow a court with permission from the commissioners court to create a mental health public defender's office.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

The Office of Court Administration anticipates no significant fiscal impact to the state or local court systems as a result of the bill. 

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
