No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code to restrict a school district, open-enrollment charter school, or private school from prohibiting a person who holds a license to carry a handgun from transporting or storing a handgun, other firearm, or ammunition in a locked, privately owned or leased motor vehicle in certain parking areas, provided the handgun, other firearm, or ammunition is not in plain view.
The Department of Public Safety and the Texas Education Agency report that the costs and duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
