No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Penal Code to broaden the definition for a secured area of an airport where a person commits an offense for possession of a firearm, illegal knife, club, or other prohibited weapon. The Texas Department of Public Safety indicates that any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
The provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions for criminal offenses would not result in a significant impact on the demand for state correctional resources.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
