Pursuant to a notice posted on August 14, 2018, the House Committee on Corrections met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative White, at 10:36 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives White; Allen; Sanford; Schaefer; and Tinderholt.

 

A quorum was present.

 

 

The committee met jointly with the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence to consider the following interim charge:

 

Review the Texas state jail system, including its original intent, sentencing guidelines, effectiveness, and recidivism rates. Make recommendations for changes in the state jail system that will improve outcomes.

At 2:24 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
