Pursuant to a notice posted on August 14, 2018, the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Moody, at 10:37 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Moody; Hunter; Hefner; and Lang.
A quorum was present.
The committee met jointly with the Committee on Corrections to hear invited testimony on the following interim charge:
Interim Charge 6: Review the Texas state jail system, including its original intent, sentencing guidelines, effectiveness, and recidivism rates. Make recommendations for changes in the state jail system that will improve outcomes.
