Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 19, 2017, and permission granted on May 19, 2017, to meet while the House was in session, the House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence met in a formal meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative Smithee, at 7:41 p.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Smithee; Laubenberg; Murr; Neave; Rinaldi; and Schofield.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

SB 239

 

The chair laid out SB 239, the companion to HB 298.

 

The chair moved that SB 239, without amendments, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed and be sent to the Committee on Local and Consent Calendars.  The motion prevailed by the following record vote:

 

Ayes:                           Representatives Smithee; Laubenberg; Murr; Neave; Rinaldi; Schofield (6).

 

Nays:                           None (0).

 

Present, Not Voting:   None (0).

 

Absent:                        Representatives Farrar; Gutierrez; Hernandez (3).

The chair laid out SB 824, the companion to HB 1765.

 

The chair offered a complete committee substitute.

 

The committee substitute was adopted without objection.

 

The chair moved that SB 824, as substituted, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. 

 

The motion to report was withdrawn by the chair.

 

The chair moved to reconsider the vote by which the substitute was adopted. The motion to reconsider prevailed without objection.

 

The committee substitute was withdrawn without objection.

 

SB 824 was left pending without objection.

 

The chair laid out SB 824 as pending business.

 

The chair offered a complete committee substitute.

 

The committee substitute was adopted without objection.

 

The chair moved that SB 824, as substituted, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion prevailed by the following record vote:
