Pursuant to a notice posted on October 4, 2017, the House Committee on Public Education met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Huberty, at 10:08 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Huberty; Bernal; Allen; Bohac; Deshotel; Gooden; King, Ken; Koop; Meyer; and VanDeaver.
A quorum was present.
The committee considered the following interim charge: Determine, to the extent possible, the scope of financial losses, including facilities, that resulted from Harvey. Recommend possible state actions, such as changes to student counts or property valuation, to mitigate any negative impact on districts and ensure governance structures and parameters allow for effective responses.
