Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water & Rural Affairs was held on Monday, February 27, 2017, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

The Chair made introductory remarks and introduced committee staff. The Chair recognized the other members of the committee to introduce their staff and make opening remarks.

Senator Rodriguez moved adoption of the committee rules. The rules were adopted by a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent.

The Chair called invited testimony to discuss the issue of ensuring adequate veterinary care in rural areas of Texas. See attached witness list.

At 10:08 AM Senator Hinojosa assumed the chair.

At 10:15 AM Senator Perry resumed the chair.

At 10:38 AM Senator Rodríguez assumed the chair.

At 10:52 AM Senator Perry resumed the chair.

The Chair called up any registered public testimony. Being none, the chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 11:22 AM Senator Perry moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
