AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
H.B. 1387 amends current law relating to the number of school marshals that may be appointed to serve on a public school campus or at a private school.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 37.0811(a), Education Code, as follows:
(a) Authorizes the board of trustees of a school district or the governing body of an open‑enrollment charter school to appoint one or more school marshals for each campus. Deletes existing text relating to the ratio of students to marshals and campus buildings to marshals.
SECTION 2. Amends Section 37.0813(a), Education Code, as follows:
(a) Authorizes the governing body of a private school to appoint one or more school marshals. Deletes existing text relating to the ratio of students to marshals and campus buildings to marshals.
SECTION 3. Provides that this Act applies beginning with the 2019�2020 school year.
SECTION 4. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2019.
