BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

It has been noted that the increasing number of filings in the courts of Montgomery County support recent calls for the creation of an additional judicial district composed of Montgomery County. H.B. 1437 seeks to meet this identified need by creating the 457th Judicial District in Montgomery County.

 

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

 

ANALYSIS

 

H.B. 1437 amends the Government Code to create the 457th Judicial District, which is composed of Montgomery County. The bill designates the district attorney elected for the 9th Judicial District as the district attorney for the 457th Judicial District.           

 

EFFECTIVE DATE

 

September 1, 2019.
