AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

There have been calls to recognize the storied legacy of service to the United States of America by the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the United States Army. H.B. 1656 seeks to honor that service by providing for the issuance of a specialty license plate for persons who served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

 

H.B. 1656 amends current law relating to the issuance of 173rd Airborne Brigade specialty license plates.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter D, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, by adding Section 504.325, as follows:

 

Sec. 504.325. 173RD AIRBORNE BRIGADE. Requires the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to issue specialty license plates for persons who have served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the United States Army. Requires the license plates to include the 173rd Airborne Brigade emblem and to include the words "173rd Airborne Brigade" at the bottom of each plate.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2019.
