AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

There have been calls to honor the life and service of George P. Mitchell. H.B. 2571 seeks to provide this recognition by designating a portion of Interstate Highway 45 in Montgomery County as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway.

H.B. 2571 amends the Transportation Code to designate the portion of Interstate Highway 45 in Montgomery County between its intersection with State Highway 242 and the Montgomery‑Harris county line as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway. The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation, subject to a grant or donation of funds, to design and construct markers indicating the designation as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway and any other appropriate information and to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.

H.B. 2571 amends current law relating to the designation of a portion of Interstate Highway 45 in Montgomery County as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway.
