Public Health

Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

It has been noted that pediatric dentists comprise a significant portion of the dentist population in Texas. There are concerns that the composition of the State Board of Dental Examiners may not adequately represent these dentists. H.B. 3152 seeks to address these concerns by requiring one of the dentist members of the board to be a pediatric dentist.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 3152 amends the Occupations Code to require one of the dentist members of the State Board of Dental Examiners to be a pediatric dentist and provides for the transition to this membership requirement.
