AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
In memory of the more than 100 million people who have died and suffered under communist regimes, S.B. 1693 amends Subchaper C, Chapter 662, of the Government Code to add Section 662.071 declaring November 7 as Victims of Communism Day. The day is to be regularly observed by ceremonies and other appropriate activities.
As proposed, S.B. 1693 amends current law relating to designating November 7 as Victims of Communism Day.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.071, as follows:
Sec. 662.071. VICTIMS OF COMMUNISM DAY. (a) Provides that November 7 is Victims of Communism Day in memory of the more than 100 million people who died and countless others who suffered under communist regimes.
(b) Authorizes Victims of Communism Day to be regularly observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities.
SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2019.
