A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a veterans suicide prevention public awareness |
|
campaign. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 434.026 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 434.026. VETERANS SUICIDE PREVENTION PUBLIC AWARENESS |
|
CAMPAIGN. (a) The Texas Veterans Commission, in collaboration |
|
with the Health and Human Services Commission, shall develop and |
|
implement a public awareness campaign to: |
|
(1) increase public awareness of suicide risk factors |
|
for veterans, including risk factors specific to women veterans; |
|
and |
|
(2) provide information relating to, and increase |
|
awareness of, suicide prevention services and organizations |
|
available to veterans, including services and organizations that |
|
address the needs of women veterans. |
|
(b) In implementing the campaign, the Texas Veterans |
|
Commission may engage in online advocacy, issue public service |
|
announcements, and distribute materials that cover the topics |
|
described by Subsection (a). |

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
