A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring certain public school campuses to donate and |
|
|
distribute food to students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 33.907, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(b-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (b), a school district or |
|
|
open-enrollment charter school shall require a campus in which 50 |
|
|
percent or more of the students attending the campus are eligible |
|
|
for enrollment in the national school lunch program of free or |
|
|
reduced-price lunches to donate food to a nonprofit organization to |
|
|
be distributed to students at the campus as provided by this |
|
|
section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
