A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring a school district corrective action plan to |
|
improve district transparency in certain circumstances. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 39, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 39.060 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 39.060. CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN FOR CERTAIN VIOLATIONS. |
|
(a) If a school district is notified by the agency of a special |
|
accreditation investigation for an alleged violation of compliance |
|
with the requirements for open meetings under Chapter 551, |
|
Government Code, the district's board of trustees must, with |
|
assistance from the agency, prepare a corrective action plan to |
|
improve the transparency of board activities. The plan must |
|
include methods to: |
|
(1) increase information reporting frequency as |
|
determined necessary by the agency; |
|
(2) improve accessibility of reported information; |
|
and |
|
(3) ensure that reported information is easily |
|
understandable to parents of students enrolled in the district and |
|
community members. |
|
(b) The school district, with assistance from the agency, |
|
must complete a corrective action plan not later than the 90th day |
|
after the date the agency completes the special accreditation |
|
investigation described by Subsection (a). |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
