A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
| |
|
|
relating to grants for the development and operation of pretrial |
|
|
intervention programs for pregnant defendants and defendants who |
|
|
are the primary caretaker of a child. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 509.011, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(b-1) The division may award a grant to a department for the |
|
|
development and operation of a pretrial intervention program for |
|
|
defendants who are: |
|
|
(1) pregnant at the time of placement into the |
|
|
program; or |
|
|
(2) the primary caretaker of a child younger than 18 |
|
|
years of age. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
