A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a person holding office as a municipal judge in more |
|
than one municipality at the same time. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 574.001(b), Government Code, is amended |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(b) A person may hold the office of municipal judge for more |
|
than one municipality at the same time [if each office is filled by
|
|
appointment]. The holding of these offices at the same time is of |
|
benefit to this state. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2020, but only |
|
if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 86th Legislature, |
|
Regular Session, 2019, permitting a person to hold more than one |
|
office as a municipal judge at the same time is approved by the |
|
voters. If that proposed constitutional amendment is not approved |
|
by the voters, this Act has no effect. |
