A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to admission of certain students to an open-enrollment |
|
|
charter school in certain counties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 12.117, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) This subsection applies only to an open-enrollment |
|
|
charter school with an enrollment greater than 200 students that is |
|
|
located in a county with a population of less than 400,000 that |
|
|
contains a municipality with a population of at least 300,000. |
|
|
Notwithstanding Section 12.111(a)(13), an open-enrollment charter |
|
|
school to which this subsection applies may admit a child of an |
|
|
employee of the school as provided by this section regardless of |
|
|
whether the child resides in the geographic area served by the |
|
|
school. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
