A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to certain counties that are required to operate a |
|
juvenile justice alternative education program. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 37.011(a-2), Education Code, is amended |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(a-2) Notwithstanding Subsection (a-1), for [For] purposes |
|
of this section and Section 37.010(a), a county [with a population
|
|
greater than 125,000] is considered to be a county with a population |
|
greater than [of] 125,000 [or less] if the county: |
|
(1) has a population greater than 125,000 and less |
|
than [of] 180,000 [or less]; |
|
(2) is adjacent to two counties, each of which has a |
|
population of more than 1.7 million; and |
|
(3) has seven or more school districts located wholly |
|
within the county's boundaries. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
