A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the issuance of a temporary occupational license to |
|
|
certain military service members, military veterans, and military |
|
|
spouses. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 51, Occupations Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 51.40135 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 51.40135. TEMPORARY LICENSE FOR MILITARY SERVICE |
|
|
MEMBER, MILITARY VETERAN, OR MILITARY SPOUSE. (a) In this section, |
|
|
"military service member," "military veteran," and "military |
|
|
spouse" have the meanings assigned by Section 55.001. |
|
|
(b) The department shall review each type of license issued |
|
|
by the department to identify the licenses for which a significant |
|
|
number of military service members, military veterans, or military |
|
|
spouses submit applications. |
|
|
(c) The commission shall adopt rules to provide for the |
|
|
expedited issuance of a temporary license to an applicant who: |
|
|
(1) is a military service member, military veteran, or |
|
|
military spouse; |
|
|
(2) applies for the issuance of a license identified |
|
|
by the department under Subsection (b); and |
|
|
(3) holds a current license issued by another |
|
|
jurisdiction that has license requirements that are substantially |
|
|
equivalent to the license requirements of this state. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2020, the Texas |
|
|
Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt the rules |
|
|
required by Section 51.40135, Occupations Code, as added by this |
|
|
Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
