A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the deadline to challenge a candidate's application for |
|
|
a place on the ballot. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 141.034(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(a) An application for a place on the ballot may not be |
|
|
challenged for compliance with the applicable requirements as to |
|
|
form, content, and procedure after the 50th day before [any ballot
|
|
|
to be voted early by mail is mailed to an address in the authority's
|
|
|
jurisdiction for] the date of the election for which the |
|
|
application is made. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to an application filed under Subchapter B, Chapter 141, Election |
|
|
Code, on or after the effective date of this Act. An application |
|
|
filed before the effective date of this Act is subject to the law in |
|
|
effect at the time the report was filed, and the former law is |
|
|
continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
