A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring regional education service centers to provide |
|
information to school district employees regarding health and |
|
retirement benefits and financial literacy. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 8, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 8.059 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 8.059. INFORMATION REGARDING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS. Each |
|
regional education service center, in cooperation with the Teacher |
|
Retirement System of Texas, shall annually collaborate with school |
|
districts in the center's region to: |
|
(1) organize an educational workshop to provide |
|
information to district employees regarding: |
|
(A) health benefits for district employees and |
|
retirees, including: |
|
(i) benefits provided by each district; and |
|
(ii) health benefit plans administered by |
|
the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; |
|
(B) retirement benefits, including benefits |
|
provided by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and |
|
(C) personal financial literacy regarding health |
|
care and retirement planning; and |
|
(2) distribute the information described by |
|
Subdivision (1) to the district employees. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
