A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to assisting inmates in the Texas Department of Criminal |
|
|
Justice in obtaining veterans disability benefits. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 501, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 501.070 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 501.070. ASSISTANCE IN OBTAINING VETERANS DISABILITY |
|
|
BENEFITS. The department shall ensure that appropriate medical or |
|
|
health care personnel assist an inmate who is a veteran in |
|
|
completing a disability benefits questionnaire and submitting the |
|
|
questionnaire to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs |
|
|
for purposes of obtaining federal veterans disability benefits. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
