A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the authority of political subdivisions to establish |
|
election precincts. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 42.061, Election Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(a) The governing body of a political subdivision other than |
|
a county may shall establish the election precincts for elections |
|
ordered by an authority of the political subdivision. |
|
(c) An election precinct established for an election |
|
ordered by a city authority may not divide a county election |
|
precinct except as necessary to follow the city's boundary. |
|
(d) If a county precinct is divided according to Section |
|
42.061(c)the City shall maintain the informational integrity of the |
|
county precincts by submitting the voter ID numbers of those who |
|
cast votes to the county elections office by county precinct as well |
|
as the election precinct that was created under this section. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 42.0615, Election Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(2) Provide the voter registrar with a map of an |
|
adopted boundary change in a format that is compatible with the |
|
mapping format used by the registrar's office. |
|
(3) Provide the voter registrar with a corresponding |
|
list of voters in each of the county precincts that have been |
|
divided. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
